The Year 10 Program at Harvester is the College’s Foundation year. The program has been specifically designed to allow for the effective transition of Year 9 students and learners returning to study, build their core skills whilst tasting the range of trade based options that will become available to them in Years 11 and 12.
The core of the Year 10 program involves each of the four VCAL subjects at Foundation Level:
- Work Related Skills and
- Personal Development Skills.
Based upon the College’s curriculum framework of Applied Learning through real world projects, the learning outcomes for each unit are achieved through a series of practical projects and more traditional core skills development.
Trade Elective Program
It is the College’s policy, based upon feedback from its industry partners that the Year 10 program is better served by a series of trade related electives rather than exposing young student to the full VET certificate programs. Effective and successful transition to fully integrated VCAL and Pre-apprenticeship certificate programs is achieved based upon our unique year 10 model.
Every Year 10 student is required to complete 2 x2 week blocks of Work Experience. With the support of our dedicated Work placement and Pathways Co-ordinator, students are supported to seek meaningful placements is their industries of interests. This program has been highly successful in ensuring that students are well prepared to make informed choices about their Year 11 vocational pathway in one of our Trade specialisations.
