Certificate II in Engineering Studies

Harvester’s Engineering program boasts state-of-the-art technology and equipment enabling students access to both world class teaching and world class facilities.

The VCE VET Engineering program aims to provide students with a broad-based underpinning competencies in a range of engineering skills such as machining, fabrication and use of tools which will prepare them for entry-level employment in the industry through a traineeship or apprenticeship.  Knowledge of a range of occupations at engineering trade level enabling graduates to make informed choices in the selection of vocational career paths.  Knowledge of advanced manufacturing and engineering technologies, including social and interpersonal skills relevant to the engineering industry by integrating general competencies as part of the course curriculum.

The target audience for 22470VIC are fulltime internal students from Harvester Technical College (HTC) partaking in the fulltime VET / VCE – Vocational Major program. Students are mixed in both gender and nationality and approximately range from years 11 to 12 (15 – 18yrs of age).

Overview: 22470VIC Certificate II in Engineering Studies has 420 hours nominal hours.  The qualification consists of 11 core units/modules. The full-time program is delivered and taught across 1 whole school year.

Delivery method: Students are taught across the whole school year (14 x 50min periods per week for 36 weeks) totalling 420hours. Hence this program is on parity with nominal hours (classroom = 147hrs, workshop = 210hrs, assessment = 63hrs)

Teaching method: All delivery is via the exposition teaching strategy / style (lecture – demonstrate model).

Pathways: The aim of this course is to provide pre-employment training and a pathway into the engineering, manufacturing or related industries. Specifically, a graduate of this course will be eligible to:

  • Undertake a work-based traineeship or apprenticeship in a range of engineering, manufacturing or related areas
  • Enrol in Certificate III qualifications in the engineering, manufacturing or related areas
  • Seek entry level employment in the engineering, manufacturing or related industries
